Psychotherapy Client Bill of Rights


As a client of an Licensed Professional Counselor, you have the following rights:


·       To examine public records maintained by the Board and to have the Board confirm credential of a licensee or intern.

·       To obtain a copy of applicable Codes of Ethics.

·       To report complaints to the Board.

·       To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving the services.

·       To be free from being the object of discrimination on the basis of race, age, religion, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification or other unlawful category while receiving services.

·       To be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving services, as defined by rule and law.

As my client in particular, you also have these rights:

·       To be included in the therapeutic process as the guide to your own healing.

·       To be empowered with tools you can use outside the therapy office in service to your therapeutic goals.

·       To share concerns about the direction of our work and to ask questions to clarify the psychotherapeutic reasoning behind my choices.

·       To understand the therapeutic process and be educated, to whatever degree you need to feel comfortable, about the modalities I use and the choices I make in session.

·       To say no to any experiments, touch-oriented or otherwise, I may offer in service to your therapeutic process.

·       To be informed when I will not be in the office at least one full week in advance and to be informed of fee rate increases with 30 days notice.
